Geoffrey R. from TEMECULA, CA:
The last full "pro" camera I bought was a Nikon D2X and I was forced to work out that I'd been using that camera for about 6 1/2 years when I considered the D4 purchase. I'd been thinking about a replacement for around 6 months prior to the formal D4 press release and at that point decided to wait. Given that it took from Jan to July to get my D4 I had many occasions to think on whether that was appropriate but Samy's came through. First impressions of the camera are that it is a massive improvement over my D2X (of course!). My two desires in a replacement were a full frame sensor and higher iso performance. I've been shooting a fair bit of runway work recently and the poor ol' D2X just was NOT cutting it. To say that the D4 is an improvement is more than an understatement, it's low light performance is astonishing. Getting back to shooting "full frame" is such a joy! My fav lens on a film camera was always the 85mm f1.8, I now have the new G version to pair with my D4 and the results are a dream! Build quality is traditional Nikon and I shouldn't have to say more. The camera is weighty, but I suspect a little lighter than my D2X but it feels nice in my hands. The controls are similarly spaced to my old camera so migrating was no issue at all. I don't have an XQD card yet (memo to self I really need to get my NPS stuff sorted) however it IS expensive, there is no getting around that. My justification is that this should last 8-10 years and I can see myself pairing it with a D800 but the reality is that this is simply the best all-rounder on the market right now. Couldn't be happier!

Carl C. from BOISE, ID:
It's not often a photographer buys the top of the line camera but the Nikon D4 is a special purchase and after waiting in a pre- order line for three months at an east coast super store, it was a pleasure to buy the camera at Samy's and receive the camera in three days at my door step. I have had the camera for about ffifteen days and I still marvel at the capabilities of the sensor. I live in Boise and our sunsets have been colored and obscured by forest fire smoke.at 9:PM I was shooting at F8 and 1/250 sec at ISO 1250 with very little Noise with enlargements at 11X14. Thanks Penny for your online hospitality-Carl
