5 Reasons Why the Official Announcement of the Canon 5D Mark IV is Such a Big Deal

August 29, 2016  |  by Samy's Camera
It's finally here: no more rumors or speculation. Pre-orders for the Canon EOD 5D Mark IV are well underway; and the response online has been, for the lack of a better word, insane. When you think about it, anything less would have been strange. The Mark III was announced in March of 2012 as part of Canon’s 75th anniversary celebration. These days when that snazzy new laptop is yesterday’s news in 6-9 months, waiting the length of someone’s college stay or a single presidential term can be, needless to say, trying. However, as stated in their latest press release, Canon assures us that their latest addition to the EOS 5D series is was worth the wait. "In developing this new DSLR camera,” said Yuichi Ishizuka, president and COO, Canon U.S.A., Inc., “we listened to the requests of current EOS users to create for them a modern, versatile camera designed to help them create and share beautiful still and video imagery." If you are new to DSLR cameras or are just weary of internet hype, you may ask, “why is this camera such as big deal?” Well, there are a couple of reasons. Here are 5 reasons why Canon’s 5D Mark IV is such a big deal.
30.4MP full-frame CMOS sensor
Powered by a Digic 6+ processor, the Mark IV, thanks to its remarkable high-resolution abilities, is ideal for a broad range of applications. Did we also mention, as reported by PetaPixel, it’s capability of shooting a 7fps burst for up to 21 frames of RAW and unlimited JPEG shots?
Dual Pixel AF + RAW
A refined 61-point AF system and Canon's revolutionary Dual Pixel CMOS AF means better focus accuracy, and continuous focus while shooting stills in Live View. Also, the Dual Pixel CMOS AF system enables capture of Dual Pixel Raw (DPRAW) files.
WiFi + More
Connectivity is not just important these days; it’s an expected feature in mobile and most tech devices. Built in Wi-Fi, NFC, and GPS, thanks to the Mark IV, brings the EOS 5D series up to date. Also, as reported by TechRadar, the Mark IV, for the first time, also supports IPTC metadata, allowing users to enter shoot details, and automatically embed in images.
Touch Screen
Another feature that brings the series into the 21st century, the Mark IV’s easy-to-navigate 1.62 million dot, low-reflection 3.2-inch Clear View LCD II monitor allows the camera to become an extension of the user, facilitating fast, intuitive operation.
4K Video
Aiming to be a one-stop-shop product, the Mark IV easily transitions from taking still photographs to shooting videos in a near instant, capturing Digital Cinema (DCI) standard 4K (Motion JPEG) videos of 4096 x 2160 pixels at up to 30 or 24 fps. The camera also supports the 4K broadcasting standard of 3840 x 2160 pixels with slight trimming on the left and right sides.
BONUS: New Glass
As if the Mark IV wasn’t enough, Canon has also introduced two new lenses: The EF 24-105mm f/4L, which features a zoom range of 24-105mm and a constant f/4 aperture, and the EF 16-35mm f/2.8L III USM, an ultra wide-angle zoom lens with a 16-35mm focal range. Pre-Order the Canon EOS 5D Mark IV: Body Only Body w/ with 24-70mm f/4.0L IS USM Lens Body w/ 24-105mm Lens
