For gadget lovers and tech fans, the anticipation that grows around early January has come to rival that of Christmas morning. Each year the Consumer Electronics Show in Las Vegas has become a bigger stage for companies to announce their latest product innovations. During CES 2016, camera related companies took advantage of that platform to announce a plethora of new products.
After a few days recovery and reflection time, we asked Samy's Camera's CES delegation to give us their roundup of CES 2016 cameras and imaging related product highlights.

Nikon D5 and Nikon D500 at CES 2016.[/caption]
Arguably, Nikon was the camera company that managed to get the most media buzz from their CES 2016 camera announcements. Not at all surprising when Nikon used the occasion to announce three brand new cameras.
On the pro-photographer level, the
Nikon D5, the brand's new flagship camera was announced to great fanfare. Causing particular excitement is the Nikon D5's promise to deliver game-changing low-light performance.
As with the Nikon D5, the consumer-friendly
Nikon D500 is a giant technological leap for the camera brand. In addition to a similar focus on low-light performance as the D5, the new Nikon D500 boasts the title of Nikon's first 4K APS-C DSLR camera.

Nikon Key Mission 360 at CES 2016[/caption]
Not content with announcing just two new cameras at CES 2016, Nikon also reviled their move into the action camera and VR camera market. That the
Nikon KeyMission 360 camera is the brand's first action camera is interesting. The real excitement, however, comes from the camera's ability to shoot 360-degree video in 4K quality. It also departs from the traditional spherical shape that has come to be associated with virtual reality cameras.
Nikon is calling the KeyMission 360 the first in a family of action cameras.
CES 2016 Camera News From Kodak
Some time has passed since it last felt appropriate to call an event a 'Kodak Moment' but that moment certainly arrived for the brand when they announced plans to release a new
Super 8 camera.
The updated version of the much beloved Super 8 camera nods heavily to the classic design with a touches of modern design thrown in the mix.
The simple mention of the revival of the Super 8 camera brand was enough to get most camera lovers buzzing.
Trends towards retro design may have helped Kodak get their 2016 CES camera lineup noticed.
However, they demonstrated that they have an eye on the future of photography too when they announced the Kodak PixPro SP360 camera. As the name would suggest, the PixPro SP360 is Kodak's answer to 360-video capable action cameras.
Olympus CES 2016 Camera Highlights
Olympus made waves at CES 2016 with their rough and ready
Olympus Stylus Tough TG-870 camera. An update to their already popular rugged compact cameras,
the Stylus Tough TG-870 is waterproof, has an ultra-wide angle 21mm equivalent lens and next-generation GPS. Plus, it has a super-bright 180 degree flip LCD monitor that is perfect for those outdoor selfies.
With a compact camera this sturdy, the Olymus CES 2016 could easily find its way into the tool kits of many an outdoor lifestyle blogger.
Panasonic Camera Announcements at CES 2016
Panasonic's CES 2016 camera and photography announcements put the focus on lens quality. The
Panasonic LUMIX DMC-ZS100 Digital Camera, announced in Las Vegas, combines the visual performance of a large 1-inch sensor with the legendary optical performance levels of a Leica DC lens. All housed within the body of an extremely compact and portable 4k point and shoot camera.
Crossing-over the feel of film cameras with the ease of modern digital features appeared to be a trend with CES 2016 camera launches and the Panasonic Lumix DMC-ZS100 camera is no different. Those that love the traditional feel of a hands-on manual lens will enjoy the lens-mounted control ring and thumbwheel. Photographers interested in modern features, will be excited by the camera's compatibility with smartphones and other WiFi mobile devices.
Of course, the same 4K level quality and flexibility of use is there for the Lumix DMC-Zs100 video functions. Making this a great point-and-shoot camera.
Possibly,it isn't a shock to learn that if Panasonic is pairing with Leica for their point and shoot cameras that they would also be putting out an actual lens.
That is precisely what they did in the form for the new
Panasonic Leica DG Vario-ELMAR 100-400mm f/4.0-6.3 ASPH. Power O.I.S. Lens. Built for outdoor use, the new Panasonic lens features a splash and dustproof design when mounted on a compatible LUMIX G Mirrorless camera.
All of that power and the quality of the legendary Leica lens and the lens still manages to be up to two-thirds smaller and nearly one-fifth lighter than comparable DSLR 35MM long zoom lenses. As a result, this may just prove to be the perfect lens for nature photography enthusiasts.
