There are 54 days of summer left. That means that there is only so much time before some of our favorite activities and events come to a close. Besides lounging at the beach, attending outdoor movie screenings or musical festivals, and relaxing poolside, one of those events also happens to be a great place for photographers: the county fair.
Get ready to pack a camera body, a couple lenses and some sunblock. Because luckily for West Coast photographers, there are a number of county fairs scheduled between now and October.
There are just so many reasons to make the drive up or down the coast. Somehow, we narrowed them down to five key reasons why you should consider capturing your local county fair.
Two Words: The. Food.

County fairs are a food photographer's dream. From classic caramel apples to deep-fried concoctions, one is nearly guaranteed to capture amazing shots worthy of a spot in one's portfolio or Instagram feed.

Summer is all about bright colors. Thankfully, county fairs are one of the most vibrant events of summer.
Ferris wheels: Check.
Structures and signs: Check.
Carnival games: Check.
Did we mention the food and beverages? Double check.
And, let's not forget all the colorful characters in attendance: Check.

There's A LOT going on at any given county fair. Try to keep an eye out for interesting characters in order to capture fun, action-packed, or even sweet moments. Also, can you just picture an engagement shoot here? Becuase, we totally can.

As the sun is beginning to set, that means one thing: magic hour. It's (roughly) 60 minutes of perfect, stunning, flattering light. Use it to your advantage at the fair.

Night time at the county fair is a whole other experience worthy of capturing. All that neon light comes on and the place comes alive. Sounds like a good time to set up near one of those crazy carnival rides and play with shutter speed.
