Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN Review

August 02, 2016  |  by samys
As you have probably figured by now, I am a big fan of Sigma. Sigma of Japan spent a bit of time meditating a few years ago; about the time the Elder Yamaki head of the Sigma Clan passed on. Kazuto Yamki stepped in and, with the Japanese respect to the charter of his family, launched the new lines of lenses designed for photographers with both fat and thin wallets, delivering the incredible quality at both price points. Top of the line, the ART lenses are incredible. The affordable 3 Amigos Sigma launched prior to this faster 1.4 lens makes Sigma the choice for the photographers with the mirrorless cameras who want and can afford the dynamic trio (the 19mm f/2.8, 30mm f/2.8 and 60mm f/2.8). Well, three’s company; and, this fourth choice makes life even better: the Sigma 30mm f/1.4 DC DN. So 1.4…big deal. Is there really that much difference? I have not tried the 30mm f/2.8 so you will have to decide that for yourself. All I know is that my first impressions of this 1.4 was that it had a very solid and clean look to it…just a focusing collar for manual focus…no switches or loud writing or numbers tattooed across it.
