The Best Tweets of the #CESBlackout

CES 2018 is the most anticipated electronics convention in the world. Every year, thousands of businesses, professionals, and attendees fill the Las Vegas Convention Center in order to get a sneak peek of the future of consumer electronics. This year, it seems, mother nature and Murphy's Law wanted their time in the spotlight. Not only were there floods in Las Vegas (which is a desert that had not seen rainfall in 116 days)... ...there was also, as you may have heard, a blackout. Since there was some time to kill, we decided to hop on social media to not only get updates on the matter; but, to also see people's reactions. Here are the best tweets of the #CESBlackout. Once word got out, all eyes were on the Las Vegas Convention Center. From attendees to exhibitors, the irony was not lost on anyone. For the most part everyone decided to roll with the punches and find humor amongst the darkness in Central Hall.   However, there were a few unlucky attendees that found themselves in quite the pickle... On the positive side, a couple quick-thinking exhibitors saw the blackout as an opportunity to show off their products for those that decided to remain in Central Hall. In the end, everyone came together to keep everyone lit and, in some cases, entertained. After about 2 hours, all was well and CES carried on. What exactly caused the power to go out on Day 2? As reported by CNET, the rain from the previous day was to blame:

In a joint statement the Las Vegas Visitor and Convention Authority, NV Energy and Consumer Technology Association (CTA), said condensation from yesterday's rains was what led to the outage:

"Today at approximately 11:15 a.m. PT, the Central Hall and South Hall bridge meeting rooms at the Las Vegas Convention Center lost power. Power in the South Hall was restored within minutes, and power has now been fully restored to all areas. A preliminary assessment indicates that condensation from heavy rainfall caused a flashover on one of the facility's transformers. We are grateful to NV Energy for their swift assistance, to our customers and their clients for their patience and to the staff for ensuring the safety and security of all attendees and exhibitors."
